"Twoface," Stormbreeze interrupted gently, "you need to leave the den. I have to help Fireblaze." Upon hearing the graveness in his mew, Fireblaze looked up at the two toms uncertainly, fear in the depths of her eyes.

"I'll be right outside" He mewed softly and gave her a lick before limping out of the den.

The next few hours were brutal for Fireblaze. Her belly racked with pain again and again, and she let out a screech once in a while. Eventually, she felt several bundles of fur slide out of her, aided by Stormbreeze. Because of how weak she was, she was unable to look at the kits. She heard Stormbreeze call Twoface back into the den.

Twoface stood and limped into the den once he was called, his good ear flicking.

Fireblaze looked at Twoface as he walked in, not sure of the condition of the kits. "Twoface, how are they? Are...are they alive?" she whispered.

He limped in behind her and he gently nuzzled her, "You'll have to ask Stormbreeze, I cant see remember" He teased softly and licked her cheek.

She barely saw Stormbreeze nuzzling the kits and checking their vital signs. Grimly, she saw him set a couple off to the side and he guided just one to her belly. Stormbreeze hesitated before turning to Twoface. "Twoface, are these your kits? Becuase I have good and bad news."

"We dont really know..." He admitted, "Darkeye had been making her take herbs so she wouldnt have my kits, as far as we know, they're his" He muttered.

The medicine-cat nodded and decided to put it bluntly. "Well, they're all dead except for this one tom right here," he padded the kits head gently, "and he was born much too soon."

When Fireblaze heard about her dead kits, she let out a wail of anguish, trying desperately to look at the dead kits to make sure they weren't alive.

Twoface kept Fireblaze down gently and he nuzzled her in attempts to comfort his mate, "But there is a Chance for him... Right..?" He asked.

Stormbreeze hesitated before replying, "There's always a chance, but he'll need plenty of milk, and rest. And Fireblaze will need someone to stay with her for awhile."

Fireblaze, ignoring the words of the medicine-cat, snarled and fell limp as her mate held her down. "Twoface," she whispered, "can you please check the other kits? Just to make sure?"

"Stormbreeze knows what he's saying love, if they're gone, they're gone, Atleast they arent struggling" He mewed softly, staying with his mate, "I'll stay with her, not like there's much I can do otherwise" He mewed.

Stormbreeze nodded sadly and asked quietly, "Twoface, whether or not they were your kits, would you like to be the one that buries them. If not, I can bury them..."

Twoface gave a minute to think, "I will, even if they arent by blood, they are mine" He mewed.

Stormbreeze nodded. "Good, then. You'd better do it now. I'll make sure Fireblaze is okay until you get back." He looked down at her form, curled around one one surviving kit.

He gave a nod and stood, finding his way to the limp kits and he picked them up, limping out of the den.

Fireblaze sniffled and pressed herself up against her one last kit, protectiveness surging through her. She wanted to give it a name soon, but she would wait until her mate came back.

Twoface laid vigil for the kits through the night after burying them and he limped back into the den in the morning.

Fireblaze lay asleep in her nest when her mate came in, and she lifted her head to look at him as he entered. "Twoface...are you okay?" she asked with concern.

"I'm fine" He mewed and laid with her.

She sighed as she laid against him. "Umm, how was the vigil?"

"Quiet" He said and gently licked her, his ear flicking.

She sighed and used her tail to stroke the other kit. "Would you like to name the kit? I would like you to, so that...so that you know he's yours as well, whether it's by blood or not."

He nuzzled her softly, "No matter what, he's my kit, I dont have to name him to know that" He mewed.

She purred and nuzzled him back, licking his cheek softly. "Well, either way I'd still like you to choose a name."
