Panicked, she began nuzzling his side roughly, and began to cry a little. "Please, please stay with us, Twoface. I can't raise Greenkit on my own."

His ear flicked and his leg twitched, he did seem more responsive, but he still fell asleep, luckily his breathing was getting better very little by very little.

Fireblaze failed to notice that he was sleeping more peacefully and continued to nudge him rougher and rougher to try to wake him up until the medicine-cat intervened, drawing her away from her mate with his tail and telling her to just lay beside him while he slept, and she obeyed.

The tom twitched when she nudged him, he slept for a long time, waking up late at night the next day, his eyes slowly opening.

Fireblaze was outside watching over Greenkit, still worrying feverishly about the state her mate was in. Greenkit was squealing loudly as he jumped into a puddle in camp.

"I wish I had his energy" Twoface murmured as he limped out of the den.

Fireblaze saw Twoface walk weakly out of the den and instantly ran over to him, purring hard and nuzzling his neck. "Oh, Twoface, I was so worried about you!" Her worry quickly turned into anger as she nuzzled him, and she stepped back to stare him in the eyes. "What were you thinking, endangering yourself like that," she hissed.

He nuzzled her back softly then sighed once she hissed at him, "Look... I was just too worried... All that ran through my head was what could have happened..." He murmured, his head low.

"So your brilliant idea was to starve yourself and let yourself get to the brink of death?" Losing control of her temper, she lashed the air in front of his face, but didn't make contact so she didn't hurt him further. Hurt beyond words that her mate would almost leave her like that, she turned her head away from him sadly and called Greenkit over, wrapping herself around him and nuzzling him as he fell asleep on her flank.

Twoface stayed silent, his head staying low, he could smell Greenkit closer and he didnt want to argue around him.

Once Greenkit had been settled down into his nest in the nursery, Fireblaze walked out and made her way slowly to the tunnel entrance, keeping her eyes down towards the ground deliberately.

Twoface was sitting just outside the tunnel, "Your going somewhere?" He asked her, his ear flicking as he stared out into the trees, as if he was guarding camp.

She jumped at his voice, she didn't know that he was right at the entrance. Trying to keep her voice even and low, she replied, "I'm just going for a walk."

"Then why dont I go with you?" He asked with a smile.

She shrugged, trying to keep her burning emotions at bay. "If you wish. I don't care." She was lying with the last statement, and she desperately hopes he wouldn't say anything about it.

His ear flicked for a moment before he stood, "I have a feeling you really don't want me to come" He muttered, a slight saddened look upon his face.

She felt herself shudder with the surge of emotions coursing through her, making her heart pound loudly within her chest, but she did her best to control herself. She replied steadily, "As I said, I don't really care. It's your choice." She had so many other things to say to him, but she felt like he wouldn't really listen.

His ear flicked and he sighed, "Then I might as well stay if you dont care" He said and began limping back into camp, his head low to the ground so he could keep his balance.

"Wait!" she said desperately, reaching out to touch his flank with her paw to stop the crippled tom, feeling his soft fur.

He stopped when she spoke, his ear twitching.

"I need you," she whispered.

"There are many ways one needs another, you'll have to be specific" He murmured, slowly turning.

His answer, however true, frustrated her beyond comprehension. "Are you fucking kidding me?" she hissed angrily, eyes and claws flashing. "I need everything! I need your presence, I need your love, your compassion, your strong body against mine, mating me," she paused before padding to him and burying her face into his shoulder, "I need you to stay alive, Twoface, and yet your willing to let yourself go to the brink of death? Can't you see how much you've given to the clan? Let us take care of you. Please."

He gave her a gentle nuzzle when she came over, "I'm sorry love.... I'm just not the same as before the ambush... I'll have good and bad days..." He said and licked her neck, "But for you, I'll let you take care of me" He mewed, his ear flicking.

"Oh?" she mewed lightly, trying to lighten up the moment, "And what would be the best way to take care of you at this moment, my leader?"
