Dusty needs help!

"Maybe I just got a bad one." He murmured quietly, trying another.

Cedarleaf heard the kit slightly, though it was enough to wake her, "Hmm...?" She mumbled quietly.

While two poppy seeds were more than enough to endanger a young kit, Specklekit was considering going in for a third when she began to wake up, not feeling the effects just yet.

"Specklekit? What are you doing here?" She asked with a yawn.

The young tom squeaked and spun around, knocking over the pile of seeds. "I-I wanted to see what it was like, to be a medicine cat." He explained nervously.

"What have you gotten into?" She asked as she managed to get herself to stand, walking over to the kit.

"Um..." Specklekit yawned, the poppy beginning to have an effect.

She walked over and saw the kit was with the poppy seeds, her eyes widened, "How many of those did you eat?" She asked, checking the kit over.

"Two, I was gonna have three." He said sleepily. "I'm tired, Cedarleaf." He sighed, trying to lie down despite her relentless checking.

"Dont lay down!" She yowled, she probably could be heard from outside the den, she ran to her other herbs and tried to find a herb to make him throw up, clearly frantic.

"But, Cedarleadf..." He argued, though he tried to remain standing for the medicine cat. "What's wrong?"

Flamestar's ears twitched as he heard a loud sound from the medicine den. A concerned frown crossed his face as he trotted inside to investigate.

Cedarleaf found the herb she needed and she held it out to the kit, "Take it now" She said, a small growl in her tone.

"O-ok." The kit mewed meekly, interrupted by a yawn as he ate the leaf obediently. "Ew." A scowl crossed his face at the bitter taste.

"Cedarleaf, what's going on?" Flamestar asked, walking into the medicine den with a frown on his face.

"Eat the whole thing" She said with a small glare, she glanced back toward her father, "Specklekit ate two poppy seeds" She mewed.

Flamestar blinked and padded up to the kit, looking rather cross.

Specklekit's ears pinned back against his head as he noticed Flamestar's look. "S-sorry, Flamestar!" He squeaked after obediently eating the entirety of the medicine she gave him.

Cedarleaf sighed, going to the herb storage to get more, she sniffed near the death berries, "Were you thinking of eating one of these too?" She asked with a small growl, grabbing more of the herbs she had already grabbed for the kit.

"Y-yes, they looked good." Specklekit mewed, terrified. "Please, I'm sorry, don't make me be a kit forever! Cedarleaf, I-I want to be your apprentice!"

Cedarleaf sighed and set the herb in front of the kit, "One too many poppy seeds is enough, but if you had of eaten a death berry...." She murmured and trailed a paw over her head, "You wont be a kit forever, but I don't know if your ready yet to be my apprentice after what just happened" She mewed.

Flamestar looked on sternly but silently. 

"Please..." He sniffled, suddenly falling limp as the effects of the poppy seeds overwhelmed the tiny kit, safe but still affected normally by the herb.

The medicine cat sighed, "I'll take him to his mother and tell her to keep an eye on him to make sure nothing bad has happened" She mewed and cleaned up the herbs quickly, still tired herself but she worked on.

"I'll take care of the rest, you sleep."  Flamestar commanded, carefully picking up the tiny kit.

"I'm awake now, I might as well get something done" She mewed.

"No."  Flamestar retorted, with emphasis.  "Until you've at least diagnosed yourself, you're resting."

She sighed, "Flamstar I'm not helpless, I can still do things" She snapped, taking the kit from him and leaving to the nursery, not realizing she had said the same thing her mother had said before leaving.

Flamestar stood there for a moment, eyes opened wide as she realized what she'd said.  All the unpleasant memories came rushing back, and his paws all shook unsteadily.
